Happy Friday the 13th!

So, here we are, the first of three Friday the 13ths in 2009. For all of you triskaidekaphobes (people who fear the number 13) and paraskavedekatriaphobes (people who fear Friday the 13th), relax, take a deep breath, don’t worry. Thirteen is just another number, and Friday the 13th is just another day.

Numbers and days don’t have any effect on what happens to you or to anybody else. Bad things happen every day; good things happen every day. If you distinctly remember a bad thing that is related to this number or day, realize that that’s the very reason you DO remember it. If you hadn’t specifically related it to a supposedly unlucky number or day, you might not remember it at all. If you try, I’ll bet you can come up with other bad things that happened without any relation to 13, but they’re harder to remember because they have less relationships in your memory. In the future, try focusing on the good stuff that happens on supposedly bad days.

Here’s some interesting reading about the superstition:

Personally, I think this is a pretty cool day. Joss Whedon’s new TV show, Dollhouse, premieres tonight on Fox. I don’t watch TV so I won’t see the show, but it’s nice to know there’s a new Joss thing out there in the world. Hopefully it will be treated better by Fox than Joss’s last Fox show, Firefly. The truth is, even if I did watch TV, I might not watch Dollhouse because I don’t want to get involved in another great Joss show only to have it canceled prematurely. If Dollhouse does do well, I’ll be one of the first in line to buy the DVDs.

Here’s another bit of cool news announced today: FFRF Debuts New Freethought Bus Sign Campaign. I think I want to move to Wisconsin.
